Kenton Ridge at Tippecanoe Live Updates

9:00 p.m.: Kenton Ridge wins by a final of 69-62! Luke Mamer is the star of the game for Kenton Ridge, as he finished with 28 points, including six three-pointers.

8:47 p.m.: We're heading to overtime with a score of 57-57! A leaning three-pointer from Kenton Ridge's Luke Mamer tied the game with thirty second left, and despite having two good looks at the basket, Tippecanoe was unable to score.

8:39 p.m.: Tippecanoe is up by one point at 55-54 with one minute left in the game.

8:24 p.m.: A Kyle Morris three-pointer at the buzzer has given Kenton Ridge a 39-38 lead at the end of the third quarter.

8:04 p.m.: A basket from Tippecanoe's Eric Seger at the buzzer gave Tippecanoe a 22-21 lead heading into the locker room at halftime. Kenton  Ridge has been streaky scoring at times tonight, and it has shown on the scoreboard.

7:52 p.m.: Kenton Ridge has jumped out to a 19-14 lead with 4 minutes left in the second.

7:45 p.m.: The game is tied at 12-12 at the end of the first quarter. Tippecanoe pulled out to a 10-4 lead at one point, but KR battled back.

7:34 p.m.: The game just tipped-off! Live updates are coming.

7:26 p.m.: The game is set to tip-off in three minutes. Surprised to see only two other CBC coaches here tonight: Roger Culbertson of Tecumseh and Chris McGuire of Shawnee. Scouting is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

7:14 p.m.: Live updates of the Kenton Ridge at Tippecanoe boys basketball will be posted periodically thoughout the contest tonight! The game will tip-off in fifteen minutes. There is a very small crowd here in Tipp City for the only CBC contest of the night.

Beavercreek at Springfield Live Updates

9:36 p.m.: Springfield wins by the final of 50-41.

9:28 p.m.: Springfield leads 47-37 with one minute left in the game. This game is done, son!

9:13 p.m.: Springfield leads 39-31 at the end of the third quarter. Beavercreek is a streaky team and is still in the game - we'll see if Springfield can put the game away.

9:06 p.m.: We had two lead changes early in the quarter, but two three-pointers from Akeem Freeman and Letrell Leslie, resptively, have given Springfield a 36-30 lead with 3:45 left in the third quarter.

8:51 p.m.: Springfield has a narrow 25-24 lead at halftime. The Beavers went on a 10-5 run in the final four minutes of the quarter off of two big three-pointers, in particular. Just as Beavercreek has all season, they have been able to hang around. But, the second half is usually where to go to die - we'll see how it plays out.

8:40 p.m.: Springfield is up 20-14 with 4:54 left in the second quarter off of a slam dunk from Akeem Freeman 6 seconds earlier.

8:35 p.m.: Springfield leads 13-8 at the end of the first.

8:24 p.m.: The game just tipped-off. Springfield is up 4-0 with 5:50 left in the first.

8:01 p.m.: The St. Baldrick's head-shaving event went smoothly and is now over. The game will tip-off in 13 minutes.

7:01 p.m.: St. Baldrick's will be having a ceremony tonight as they did last year at a Springfield basketball game.

6:59 p.m.: I will be posting live updates of the Beavercreek at Springfield boys basketball game tonight right here on PendaSports.com! The game will tip-off in approximately one hour.

Graham at Kenton Ridge Live Updates

9:12 p.m.: Graham wins by the final of 55-38. The Falcons go to 11-3 on the year, while Kenton Ridge falls to 8-4.

9:01 p.m.: Graham is back up to a 20 point lead 48-28 with 4:45 left in the game. Kenton Ridge could still pull this out, but they better start shooting hot now! Graham, on the other hand, is cruising to victory.

8:57 p.m.: Graham holds a 43-26 lead at the end of the third quarter. In my own famous words, "this game is DONE, son!"

8:32: Well, Kenton Ridge scored ten points in the last two minutes of the quarter. The problem? It was their first and only ten points of the quarter, and they didn't score their first field goal of the game until under two minutes left in the second quarter. Graham takes a 31-11 lead into the locker room at halftime. We'll see what Kenton Ridge head coach Kris Spriggs has up his sleeve.

8:17 p.m.: Graham is up 25-2 at the end of the first quarter. This is possibly one of Kenton Ridge's worst outings of the year. My own estimates are that the Cougars had 12 first-quarter turnovers - I will get the official number from my statistician later. Meanwhile, Graham shot almost perfect in the first quarter, and the Falcons dominated the boards. We'll see if Kenton Ridge can put together a comeback.

8:08 p.m.: The usually-enthusastic Kenton Ridge student section has been silenced early by a stellar-looking Graham team. The Falcons are up 16-0 with 3:41 left in the first quarter. Cougar head coach Kris Spriggs has taken two timeouts to try and counteract Graham, but it has yet to work.

8:01 p.m.: The game just tipped-off. Live updates coming! It's a packed house tonight in Cougar Country.

7:52 p.m.: Live updates of the Graham at Kenton Ridge boys basketball will be posted throughout the contest tonight. Keeping hitting refresh for the latest scores, and check back later tonight for the game article! The game is scheduled to tip-off in three minutes.

Springfield at Centerville Live Updates

9:06 p.m.: Springfield wins by a final of 38-33! The Wildcats improve to 9-3 on the season.

9:00 p.m: Springfield leads 34-33 with 1:25 left in the game.

8:54 p.m.: Springfield leads 34-32 with three minutes left in the game.

8:43 p.m.: A three-pointer from Springfield's Denzel Lassiter ties the game at 29-29 at the end of  the third quarter. Looks like it will be an exciting end here in Elk Country!

8:36 p.m.: Centerville leads 27-26 with 1:54 left in the third quarter.

8:20 p.m.: Centerville leads 18-17 at halftime. You couldn't find offense with a search warrant in the quarter. Tony Ferrell put Springfield up 15-14 with a basket in the first minute, and the Wildcats didn't score again until a basket at the buzzer from Kris Moss. In the end, Centerville could only score two baskets themselves, so we still have a one-point game at 18-17.

8:13 p.m.: Centerville leads 16-15 with 2:29 left in the second quarter.

8:02 p.m.: Centerville leads 14-13 at the end of the first quarter. There were three lead changes in the quarter, although all occured early. The Elks have earned their money underneath on open shots, while Springfield has been hesisitant to shoot against Centerville's zone.

7:57 p.m.: Centerville leads 12-8 with 2:58 left in the first quarter.

7:49 p.m.: The game just tipped-off. Live updates are coming!

7:35 p.m.: Live updates of the Springfield at Centerville boys basketball game will be posted here throughout the contest. The game is schedule to tip-off in 9 minutes.

Dearest sports peeps!

Saints and the ??? in the Super Bowl. Easy to pick the boys from the “Big Easy” as we come down the stretch in the NFL. They are playing at home against the Vikings and really look dominating again now that they are healthy on offense.

8:09 p.m.: Springfield head coach Darnell Hoskins has talked earlier in the season about Springfield's players getting content with a big lead, and  this is a prime example. Dayton Christian outscored the Wildcats 19-12 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 32-21 at halftime. I wouldn't want to be in that locker room right now.

8:05 p.m.: Dayton Christian has kept pace with Springfield so far this quarter, as Springfield leads by the tune of 29-18 with 1:15 left.

7:47: A Springfield three-pointer from Byron Thompson with three seconds left in the first quarter has given the Wildcats a 20-2 lead heading into the second. This game looks all but done. Dayton Christian finished with 11 first-quarter turnovers  to none for Springfield.

7:41 p.m.: Springfield is currently using a stout full-court press that is flustering Dayton Christian, who has 7 turnovers so far in the game. Springfield leads 11-0 with 3:58 left.

7:32 p.m.: The game just tipped-off! Quarter updates are coming. The crowd is very sparse here tonight at Springfield High School - no more than 500 people are here.

7:10 p.m.: Live updates of the Dayton Christian at Springfield boys basketball game will be posted here! The game is scheduled to tip-off in 20 minutes.

Bill Hart's Sports Peeps: Quick-talking coaches

HARTSPORTZ! Commentary from the Hartland.

By BILL HART
Sports Columnist

Dearest sports peeps!

Tressel’s archaic offense looked a lot better this week as some of the major college misfits played coaching hop scotch.

I’ve already touched on the Carroll debacle at Southern Cal, but they dazzled everyone by bringing in another rat named Lane Kiffin. In his only season with the Vols at Tennessee, he racked up almost as many secondary NCAA violations as victories. The rest of the PAC 10 ought to be watching and reporting every screwball event that comes out of beach boy heaven.

Bill Hart's Sports Peeps: Evan Turner, Cuban defectors, and Purdue Snobs

HARTSPORTZ! Commentary from the Hartland.

By BILL HART
Sports Columnist

Dearest sports peeps!

UP, up and away goes Evan Turner! Following his triumphant return to the Buckeye Ballers against Purdue Tuesday night, you could see the NBA is not far into his future. But to heck with the future! What a great victory over a bunch of snobs in West Lafayette that thought they would smoke the Bucks in football and basketball.

Hummel’s 29 points in the first half made it look like it was lights out for OSU and, that is when Turner literally took over the game.

Springfield at Fairborn Live Updates

9:20 p.m.: Springfield wins by the final of 76-62. The Wildcats improve to 6-3 on the season, while Fairborn drops to 2-7. Kendrick Williams of Fairborn led all scorers with 23, while Akeem Freeman led Springfield with 20 with Rob Moss adding 19 for the Wildcats.

9:16 p.m.: And just like that, Springfield is up by 10 points at 70-60.

9:14 p.m.: Fairborn has pulled within 6 points at 66-60 with 2:16 left in the game.

9:09 p.m.: Fairborn has cut the lead to 7 at 60-53 with 4:40 left in the game.

9:00 p.m.: Springfield leads 54-43 at the end of the third quarter. Springfield's Akeem Freeman had two dunks in the quarter. The game seems more lopsided than the score says.

8:33 p.m.: Springfield leads 38-26 at the end of the second quarter.

8:28 p.m.: Springfield is up 34-20 with 2:18 left. The game was stopped momentarily due to a power outage of the score board, which may or may not have been my fault.

8:19 p.m.: Springfield has started to hit shots in the second quarter, and the Wildcats currently have a 25-18 lead with 4:30 left.

8:12 p.m.: The game is tied at 16-16 at the end of the first quarter. Kendrick Williams had 12 first-quarter points for Fairborn.

8:08 p.m.: Fairborn has taken the lead at 14-12 on a Williams basket with 1:14 left in the first.

8:06 p.m.: Two free-throws from Kendrick Williams of Fairborn off of a Rob Moss foul has let the Skyhawks tie the game at 10-10 with 2:30 left in the first  quarter.

7:59 p.m.: Springfield is up 8-4 with 4:10 left in the first quarter.

7:53 p.m.: The game just tipped-off.

7:44 p.m.: There is just under four minutes left until tip-off.

7:28 p.m.: Springfield won the junior varsity game 43-38. The crowd is sparse here, and, in Fairborn's small gym, it looks all the more smaller. Live updates of the game will be coming; the game is set to tip-off in 20 minutes.

5:45 p.m.: Get live updates of the Springfield at Fairborn boys basketball game right here on PendaSports.com! Frequent updates will be given throughout the game!

By CASEY MATTESON

SPRINGFIELD — Urbana University’s all-time winningest baseball coach, Al Fulk, was inducted into the Springfield/Clark County Baseball Hall of Fame on January 9, 2010.

For Fulk, he realizes this is a tremendous award. “It’s quite an honor,” he said, “just to have your name up there with all of those others.”

Bill Hart's Sports Peeps: Oh my Bengals!

HARTSPORTZ! Commentary from the Hartland.

By BILL HART

Where do the Bengals go from here? They're at a huge crossroad. The off-season this season will have many twists and turns.

Number one is coaching. Marvelous Marvin is entering his last contract year with an option to renew. Will he take that option? Defensive Coordinator Mike Zimmer is already talking to the Redskins. Will he stay? Following the terrible offensive slump at the end of the season, does Coordinator Bratkowski stay?

Graham Boys Outlast Urbana 55-52

UHS’ s Marino beats buzzer to force OT; Ward shines for Graham

BY CASEY MATTESON

URBANA — Even though the weather was cold outside, the Urbana High School Gymnasium heated up Friday night. When the final buzzer sounded at the end of overtime, Graham’s boys basketball team had claimed a thrilling 55-52 victory over the Urbana Hillclimbers in a beauty of a rivalry basketball game that kept Graham in the lead of the CBC Mad River Division. Graham’s Ethan Ward, who had been struggling with his shooting so far this season and only averaging 9.6 points per game, found his stroke to lead all scorers with 26 points, including 5 three-pointers. He scored 13 points in each half of play, including a big trey in OT.

“To be idle is a short road to death.” Okay peeps, who said it? Time’s up! It was Buddha, of course. He probably was not talking about Peyton Manning and the Colts, but then again he could be. Once again the Colts enter their late season hibernation after rolling over twice, and then hitting a bye week. Watch out for San Diego! When you consider the Colts in the big picture, rolling over fits them. After all, they play in a sissy dome.

CBC Kenton Trail Race “anyone’s” to Win

By BRYANT BILLING
Sports Editor

SPRINGFIELD — The Central Buckeye Conference’s Kenton Trail Division title race is starting to heat up. With all but one conference team having five games down, the conference standings are tight early. Four teams are currently tied for the top spot at 4-1: Kenton Ridge, Tippecanoe, Shawnee, and Tecumseh. Bellefontaine is still in the mix for the league title at 2-2, and it seems as if only Stebbins (1-4) is out of the race.

“It’s a bear,” Kenton Ridge head coach Kris Spriggs said of the Kenton Trail after a game at Northeastern last Saturday, January 2. “It’s anyone’s to win at this point – anyone can win it.”

CINCINNATI – Local Springfield resident and Kenton Ridge graduate and football standout Josh Linthicum passed away suddenly this morning, January 4, at the age of 19. Linthicum, who played football for Wabash College, a Division III school in Indiana, was undergoing surgery in Cincinnati at Bethesda hospital under the care of Dr. Timothy Kremchek, who is the main surgeon for the Cincinnati Reds and Wittenberg University, in addition to other sports organizations.

Linthicum was undergoing an outpatient procedure and passed away suddenly on the operating table. Doctors were unable to revive him.

INside the game: Kenton Ridge at Northeastern

By BRYANT BILLING
Sports Editor

Go “INside the game” with Bryant Billing in every game he covers!

Not a whole lot of inside information or analysis to win. In case you didn’t read the game article on Kenton Ridge’s 55-40 win over Northeastern last night, here’s putting it simply: Kenton Ridge came, Kenton Ridge saw, Kenton Ridge conquered. In giving all deserved credit to Northeastern, the Jets did keep it close in the first half; they even tied the score once at 13-13 in the second quarter. But, in the end, Kenton Ridge had too much offensive firepower for Northeastern.

Kenton Ridge Defeats Ailing District Rival

By BRYANT BILLING
Sports Editor

SPRINGFIELD — Heated was not quite the word to describe the inter-district rivalry boys basketball game between Kenton Ridge and Northeastern last Saturday, January 2, at Northeastern High School. Luke-warm was more of a correct description. Frigid temperatures, the looming end of Christmas break, and a large but quiet crowd seemed to dampen the rivalry a bit. All of that, and sub-par play from both teams.

“This is a big rivalry game,” Kenton Ridge head coach Kris Spriggs said after the game. “We’re ten minutes apart, so you’re going to get the best effort from each team… though, [we were both] a little stale [tonight].”

Live Updates of Kenton Ridge at Northeastern

8:44 p.m.: Kenton Ridge leads 42-26 at the end of the third quarter. The Cougars are starting to pull away, as they won that quarter by the score of 13-8. Northeastern doesn't look to have enough firepower to stay in the game.

Duck Soup! Tressel and company didn’t bring home the bacon from the Rose Bowl, but the Bucks sure feasted on some duck! For once, we did not have to watch a team with less talent beat the Bucks.
