Confessions of a sports talk addict part 2!

More sports talk updates for the ultimate fan! In the past, I have written about the mid-day talkers such as Patrick, Rome etc. Here are some more ideas for earlier and later in the day.

Not being an early riser, I catch a little “Mike and Mike” (ESPN) in the morning or “Steve Czaban” (FOX). If you are local in Springfield, you will have a hard time picking up a show early in the morning (6 ish) on WONE (980 AM). However, most if not all of their programs are simulcast on local WIZE 1340, so the signal is better.

We are not fortunate enough to have any local sports talk until the “Fan” (97.1 FM) in Columbus kicks it at 1 PM. The “Fan” has an amazing FM signal that you can listen all the way to Beavercreek and Huber Heights. The Fan gives you a real good alternative to WTVN (610 AM) in Columbus during OSU football. Both start coverage about 5 hours prior to game. The “Fan” is ESPN and WONE is Fox Sports, which gives listeners two big sports sources. Primarily, it gives you the option to turn off “Vic the Brick” Jacobs on Fox sports. He is terrible. Listen and puke, he does the net sports updates.

At 1:00 you can listen to the “Big Show” on the Fan, particularly if you are a Buckeye. Spielman, Herbstreit and Hooley by far beat out all other shows.

3 PM brings you to Mark Schlemmer on WONE. Mark is really your only shot at a real local show that you can interact with. WING (1410 AM) does a one hour shot between 5 and 6 with Mark Neal, but it’s only a hour. Schlemmer is on till 7 PM most days plus a weekend gig. There are a couple callers that will make you want to hit the channel changer, but overall it’s refreshing to hear a host that sticks with his callers. It’s obvious that you could be a regular with him, and that’s great!

Your other late afternoon choice is back on the FAN with “The Common Man and the Torg”. These guys define sarcasm. If you want to hear good “beat downs” of everything, shoot over to these guys when Schlemmer is running breaks. They come on at 3.

Back to WING. WING is ESPN so you readers to the west in the Dayton area can get the same two sports giants.

By now you figure I don’t have a life…you could be right!

That guy on 1340 is an idiot. Where's the review of Cincinnati guys?!? Most of the people I know listen to 700 or 1530 out of Cinci.
